Our 9 year old Bengal Izzie.

Our 9 year old Bengal Izzie.

She’s eating like a horse and she’s skin and bones. Been to the vet once, gave the meds, and she’s skinnier than ever.

We’re not up for another vigil. Raebert groans all day. We know other people have it worse, believe me. But it isn’t making us smarter or more amusing.

Diabetes? That took out one of my cats. Just wasn’t metabolizing his food. Ate everything he could find, pooped it all out, kept losing weight. He became obsessed with water… laying next to his water bowl, in the sink, etc. Diabetes will increase thirst.

Our suspicion too. But it’s hard to be definitive with Izzie. She’s always been obsessed with water. Part of her genome is Asian Leopard Cat, river hunters. She jumps in the shower, drinks from the faucet…. We bought her two Italian water fountains. Now, it’s impossible to say she’s drinking more, but the first round of tests said no on Diabetes. Maybe they’ll be more serious when she goes back to the ver tomorrow night. Thanks for all your caring.

Cat blood sugar is tricky business. I did a lot of reading when we got the diabetes diagnosis. You can maintain diabetic cats on insulin, but regulating their blood sugar is notoriously difficult. I ended up not going that route. This cat was a chronic regurgitator. Stick him with insulin, leave for work, and if he barfs he’d be in a coma (or worse) when I get home. We kept him and loved him for as long as we could without being selfish. He was around 11 or 12.

Was she ever on predisone for any length of time? Mine took pred for a long time due to chronic bowel issues. Pred usage is highly correlated with diabetes in cats.

Lymphoma. Put down tonight by a virtuous vet who did not lie about the prognosis.

Oh, my. You poor souls. I lost two non-human friends of 12+ years in a short space of time, but not nearly this short. I empathize with you.

Very sorry once again. Terrible loss. My condolences.
